Letybo is a botulinum toxin type A injectable, similar to Botox®, but with some differences that make it a good choice for certain patients when we are treating wrinkles and other aging concerns. This injectable has been used in the United States since 2025, but has a long track record elsewhere in the world, where it is one of the top neuromodulators. At Mimi Lee M.S. PA in Little Rock, AR, Dr. Lee offers Letybo alongside a selection of other injectables to give her patients more options for treatment. She is always available for a consultation to discuss the benefits of each treatment and whether they are right for you.
How Letybo Earned FDA Approval After Years of Global Use
Letybo launched in South Korea in 2016 and has since been used in more than 31 million treatments worldwide. It is registered in 33 European countries. The FDA approved Letybo for moderate to severe glabellar lines, the frown lines between the eyebrows, in 2024. Full US commercialization followed in 2025, so patients here now have access to a neurotoxin with a long international record.
The Benefits of Letybo’s Manufacturing Process
Each botulinum toxin brand has its own purification method that shapes how the final product behaves. Letybo is made through an enzyme-free purification process that uses two methods to remove impurities:
Protamine Sulfate Precipitation
Protamine sulfate is a small, positively charged protein that is added to the toxin solution. It binds to negatively charged impurities such as leftover bacterial DNA and other manufacturing byproducts. This binding causes those impurities to clump into solids that fall out of the liquid, where they can be filtered or spun out and discarded.
Chromatography
Chromatography passes the liquid through a column packed with a special material. As the liquid moves through, different molecules travel at different speeds depending on properties like their size or electrical charge. Because the molecules separate as they move, the purified toxin can be collected on its own, apart from the remaining impurities. Letybo’s process repeats this step a second time to remove even more of what is left.
The Benefits of Letybo’s Lower Protein Load
Botulinum toxins carry some protein alongside the active ingredient. The body can build a response to these extra proteins, which can eventually make repeat treatments less effective. Letybo has a low protein load to help reduce the chance of this response developing. This injectable can be a good option for those who plan to treat their frown lines every few months for an indefinite amount of time.
How Letybo Compares to Other Formulas
Botox® and Dysport® are also botulinum toxin type A products, each with its own formulation and dosing. Dysport diffuses more across the muscle, while Botox has the longest track record in the United States and approval for the widest range of treatment areas here. The right one for you depends on your muscles and your goals. Learn more about Botox and Dysport.
What the BLESS Clinical Trial Data Shows About Long-Term Use
The FDA based its approval on three BLESS clinical trials that enrolled 1,271 patients across 31 sites in the United States and Europe. At four weeks, far more Letybo patients reached treatment success than placebo patients. More than 1,100 of these patients continued into additional treatment cycles, and across these repeat rounds, no patients in the trials developed neutralizing antibodies, the immune response that can weaken results over time.
Why Botulinum Toxin Products Are Not Interchangeable
The units used to measure one botulinum toxin are not the same as the units used to measure another. Letybo has its own potency scale set by Hugel, so 20 units of Letybo does not equal 20 units of another brand. This is why comparing brands on price per unit can mislead you, and why dosing is matched to each product.
More Benefits of Letybo
- Natural-Looking Results: Letybo relaxes the targeted muscle without freezing the rest of your face, so your expressions stay your own.
- Fast Onset: Many patients see frown lines soften within a few days of treatment, sometimes the day after.
- Long-Lasting Results: Effects typically hold for three to four months before the muscle gradually regains movement.
- High-Purity Formulation: Its enzyme-free purification and low protein load support consistent results, treatment after treatment.
- Zero Downtime: Injections take only a few minutes, and most patients return to their day right away.
- Treatment of Multiple Different Areas: Letybo is FDA-approved for frown lines and may be used off-label on forehead lines and crow’s feet based on your anatomy.
How Letybo Pairs With Other Treatments At Our Practice
Dr. Lee may combine Letybo with other treatments in one visit to address different things at the same time, such as facial volume loss, dynamic wrinkles and surface texture:
Letybo and MicroTox
MicroTox is a treatment that uses microdoses of a neurotoxin product (such as Letybo, Botox or Dysport) just under the skin to tighten the surface and refine the pores. Both Letybo injections and MicroTox can be performed during the same treatment, and the combination often provides better results than either by itself. They can smooth the skin’s surface while also softening movement-related wrinkles.
Letybo and Dermal Fillers
Letybo relaxes the muscles, but does not restore lost volume. This is why Dr. Lee may recommend adding dermal fillers to improve areas affected by age-related volume loss, like the cheeks and lips. This is a common pairing for those who have dynamic wrinkles and facial hollowing.
