BOTOX vs Dysport

BOTOX vs Dysport

Just about everyone has heard about BOTOX®. It is the most famous cosmetic and medical procedure on the planet today. It is estimated that approximately six million people have BOTOX® treatments performed every single year. This is an injectable that is able to relax the muscles that activate when a person frowns, when they smile or when they make a different facial expression. This causes the dynamic wrinkles in the treatment areas to disappear. In 2009, BOTOX® received some competition when Dysport® came to the market. People often wonder what is better when it comes down to using BOTOX® vs Dysport® for their dynamic wrinkles.

When you look at both products, you’re going to see that they are very similar. They both use the same purified protein solution to relax muscles that lead to dynamic wrinkles. Regarding BOTOX® vs Dysport®, Dysport® has a smaller molecule, and so the unit of measure when distributing it is different from BOTOX®.

Both BOTOX® and Dysport® have been used successfully for many years. The one difference is that BOTOX® has been used and was approved for use by the FDA in the United States almost a decade before Dysport®. Both products require touch-up treatments to maintain the results.

Dysport® and BOTOX® produce similar results. There have been multiple double-blind clinical studies where neither the patient nor the doctor could tell which side of the face or which individual was treated using BOTOX® or Dysport®.

Some argue that Dysport® does not last as long as BOTOX®. But there still are a lot of questions about that. It appears that Dysport® has a quicker onset in that you can start to see the results sooner. However, results vary from client to client with both products.

When it comes down to the popularity of BOTOX® vs Dysport®, BOTOX® does have more brand recognition in the United States. However, Dysport® is becoming more and more popular because of the results it can produce.

At the office of Dr. Mimi Lee, we are proud to offer both BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments, as we understand that wrinkle reduction is not one-size-fits-all. Our office is conveniently located in Little Rock. Contact us today to schedule a consultation to learn more about these two products and how they can benefit you.
