How Long Does Radiesse Last?

When you were younger, you thought you would be able to age gracefully without professional help. But with age comes wisdom, and you now realize you need professional anti-aging treatments to regain and maintain your youthful countenance. At the office of Mimi Lee, MD in Little Rock, AR, we get a lot of questions about various anti-aging treatments. Today, we answer a few of the most common, including how long does Radiesse last.

9 FAQs About Radiesse Answered

1. How Long Does a Radiesse Treatment Session Last?

The length of a Radiesse treatment session depends on several factors, including how many areas you’re treating, the size of the areas and how many doses you will need. However, one of the most compelling benefits of this treatment is how quick the treatment sessions are.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Lee will review the extent of improvements that need to be done to help you accomplish your anti-aging goals. At this point, she will give you an idea of how long you can expect your treatment session to last. On average, treatment never lasts longer than 15 minutes.

2. How Long Do the Results of This Treatment Last?

Another compelling benefit of this treatment is that the results last around two years. In fact, it is not uncommon for a client to not consider coming in for a follow-up treatment until 23 months after they have achieved their ideal aesthetic. This is in stark contrast to other anti-aging injections that only last six to 12 months.

3. Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

The only way to tell if you are a good candidate for this treatment is to come in for an initial consultation. However, in general, you are probably a good candidate if you are between the ages of 35 and 60 and are concerned about folds and wrinkles around your nose and mouth. You may also be a good candidate for this treatment if you are concerned with volume loss on the backs of your hands or fat loss in your cheeks.

4. How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

The number of treatment sessions required to achieve an ideal aesthetic varies on a case-by-case basis. During your initial consultation, Dr. Mimi Lee will let you know how many treatment sessions you may need to get the look you want.

Most of our clients need only one treatment session to achieve their ideal aesthetic. Only those with extensive signs of aging over large portions of their face find they need two treatment sessions to achieve their desired look.

5. Will I Need Two Treatment Sessions in the Future?

If you schedule your touch-up appointment around the time you notice aging signs start to creep up, you will only need one follow-up treatment. Even better, a lower dose will be required compared to the initial dose you needed to reclaim your youth in the first place.

6. Are Injections Painful?

Another major benefit of Radiesse is that the injections are not painful at all. The needle used to administer the treatment is so fine that it will not cause you any pain or discomfort. If you don’t want to even feel the needle painlessly penetrate your skin, ask for a local or topical anesthetic so you won’t feel anything during your treatment session.

7. How Does It Work?

This injectable is made of calcium hydroxyapatite gel microspheres which get to work immediately upon injection. The injectable is loaded with calcium and phosphate ions which occur naturally in the human body. Thus there is no risk of an allergic reaction.

Immediately upon injection, this gel fills in fine lines, wrinkles, folds and areas suffering from volume loss. However, with time, the calcium hydroxyapatite stimulates your body’s natural collagen production process. Collagen is essentially your body’s own natural filler. Moreover, the carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in the gel form a structure that acts as connective tissue.

8. How Long Until I See the Results of Treatment?

The initial results of treatment can be seen as soon as you leave our office. However, it takes your body’s collagen a little while to be produced. Therefore, you shouldn’t expect to see the final results of your treatment until around a week after treatment.

If you think you might need two treatment sessions to achieve the youthful countenance you desire, we strongly recommend that you schedule your touch-up treatment a week after your first session.

9. How Should I Prepare for Treatment?

To prepare for your treatment, let us know during your initial consultation about any other skin care treatments you have had recently, such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, a HydraFacial or Botox. Also, bring in a list of current medications. You may need to stop taking certain medications, such as ibuprofen and warfarin, for the two weeks leading up to your treatment.
